The House Builder And His Crew

There once was a man whose business it was to build houses. This man had reputation of being good home builder and he also treated his employees fairly and paid them well. So because of this reputation he had many customers and many men wanted to work for his company. However, in his employ there was a worker who had proven to be less than diligent.

It just so happened that the man was looking to hire a new worker. Many applicants came to inquire about the job opening. Being a fair man he interviewed them all. He treated them all equally and checked their references thoroughly. 

It just so happened that the worker who was less than diligent brought a friend to interview for the job. The applicant was immediately dismissed. Although the applicant was diligent himself it was to no avail. It was to no avail because the owner surmised that since he was associated with and was recommended by one who was not diligent than the applicant could not be diligent either.

The applicant thought that he had been misjudge and asked the owner for an explanation. The owner looked the applicant straight in the eye and said, “We are judged by the company that we keep”.
